Sony DCR with Final Cut Pro on Lion

Sony DCR-SR45 not recognized by FCP
"I'm new to importing from a camera and relatively new to FCP, too. Previously, I've imported from a hard drive. When I connect Sony DCR-SR45 hard drive SD camcorder to a Mac Pro with FCS, FCP doesn't recognize it. It's probably my relative ignorance about FCP.
I tried to use Log and Transfer but it didn't recognize the camera. I'd appreciate a pointer to what I might need to do to make it happen. (I did use iMovie '09 successfully to import the two dozen short clips and then imported them into FCP with no problems.)"
